Virat Kohli, a batter for the Indian men’s cricket team, surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to become India’s leading run-scorer against New Zealand in One Day Internationals during the second ODI on Wednesday.
Kohli began the match tied with Tendulkar’s count after making 93 in the series opener in Vadodara. He surpassed the previous India captain with a boundary from the first ball he encountered, claiming exclusive ownership of the leading position among Indian batsmen versus New Zealand in the one-day format.
Virat Kohli Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI Runs Record Against New Zealand in 2nd ODI
Kohli currently holds 1,773 runs against New Zealand in ODIs, surpassing Tendulkar’s 1,750. In the complete ranking, Australia’s Ricky Ponting continues to lead with 1,971 runs.
Kohli’s innings concluded at 23 when New Zealand’s fast bowler Kristian Clarke dismissed him in the 24th over. Clarke delivered the ball to the right-hander, and Kohli tried to steer it past point but unintentionally pulled it back onto the wickets.
Earlier, New Zealand skipper Michael Bracewell won the toss and opted to field first. India secured victory in the first ODI in Vadodara by four wickets, leading the three-match series 1-0. The last ODI will take place in Indore on Sunday.
Each team made a single adjustment for the game. New Zealand included left-arm spin all-rounder Jayden Lennox, excluding wrist-spinner Adithya Ashok.
India had to make a change after off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar sustained a rib injury in the first ODI and was excluded from the series. Batter Ayush Badoni joined the squad for the final matches, while all-rounder Nitish Reddy replaced Sundar in the playing XI.
