Imran Khan’s fate is the subject of conjecture following reports that his sisters were beaten by police while attempting to meet. According to social media, he was murdered in Adiala Jail, where he has been detained since August 2023. During a nonviolent demonstration outside the jail, his sisters described a “brutal and orchestrated assault” by Punjab police.
Imran Khan’s Whereabouts: Why Confusion Is Growing
After Imran Khan’s three sisters were “brutally” attacked by the police last week for attempting to meet with their brother, there are numerous rumors circulating throughout Pakistan regarding the whereabouts of the former prime minister.
This coincides with multiple social media accounts from Pakistan and Afghanistan claiming that Imran was killed inexplicably inside Adiala Jail.
Members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf claim that Imran’s sisters, Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan, and Dr. Uzma Khan, were attacked by police “for seeking a meeting with Imran Khan” while they were camped outside Adiala Jail.
“We demonstrated nonviolently because we were worried about his health. We didn’t engage in any illegal activity, obstruct public transportation, or block roads. However, the streetlights in the vicinity were suddenly turned off without warning or provocation, purposefully leaving the scene in complete darkness. What followed was a brutal and orchestrated assault by Punjab police personnel,” Noreen Niazi said.
“I was grabbed by my hair at the age of 71, thrown violently to the ground, and dragged across the road, sustaining visible injuries,” she claimed.
In the meantime, thousands of PTI supporters gathered outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail and chanted anti-Imran Khan slogans.
Additionally, Noreen Niazi accused the police of dragging and slapping women who were outside the jail.
“Police’s actions were part of a larger and concerning pattern of indiscriminate force used against peacefully protesting citizens over three years, reflecting a troubling impunity,” she stated.
“The actions of the police were completely illegal, morally repugnant, criminal, and in direct opposition to the fundamental responsibilities of any law enforcement agency in a democratic society,” she continued.
For more than a month, the government has prohibited meeting Imran while he is incarcerated. Since August 2023, the former prime minister of Pakistan has been imprisoned in several cases.
Sohail Afridi, the chief minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, was previously prohibited from meeting Khan. Afridi tried to see him in jail seven times in a row, but the jail officials—who Khan says were under the command of an army officer—rejected him.
