Deepti Sharma Rewrites Cricket History, Crosses 150 T20I Wickets in Landmark Spell

India’s top all-rounder Deepti Sharma delivered a performance filled with records in the third T20 International against Sri Lanka, surpassing Australian legend Ellyse Perry to claim the position of the third-highest wicket-taker in women’s international cricket.

Deepti Sharma posted figures of 3 for 18 at Thiruvananthapuram, bringing her total to 333 international wickets, surpassing Perry, who concluded her career with 331 wickets from 271 matches. Currently, only Katherine Sciver-Brunt of England (335 wickets in 275 matches) and Indian great Jhulan Goswami (355 wickets in 291 matches) rank higher than Deepti on the all-time list.

The performance also witnessed Deepti making history in the shortest format. She was the first Indian — among both men and women in cricket — to achieve the milestone of 150 wickets in T20 Internationals.

Throughout the process, she matched Australia’s Megan Schutt as the top wicket-taker in women’s T20Is, securing 151 wickets in 131 games at an impressive average of 18.73. Her top statistics in the format are still 4 out of 10.

In one-day internationals, Deepti Sharma is also rising in the rankings. She ranks as the eighth-highest wicket-taker in women’s ODIs and is India’s second-most successful bowler in this format following Jhulan Goswami, claiming 162 wickets in 121 matches with an average of 27.32.

Her ODI statistics feature a personal best of 6 for 20, in addition to three four-wicket hauls and four five-wicket achievements. In Test cricket, she has taken 20 wickets across five matches, boasting an average of 18.10, including both a four-wicket haul and a five-wicket haul

Adding to an impressive list of achievements, Deepti became the first cricketer, male or female, in the history of the sport to accumulate 1,000 runs and secure 150 wickets in T20 Internationals. In addition to her 151 wickets, she has gathered 1,100 runs in 131 matches, averaging 23.40 with a strike rate of 104.26, which features two half-centuries.

During the game, India won the toss and chose to field. Sri Lanka scored 112 for 7 in their 20 overs, with Imesha Dulani (27), Hasini Perera (25), and Kavisha Dilhari (20) as the only players to exceed the 20-run threshold. Renuka Singh shone with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 21 runs.

India’s pursuit concluded decisively, driven by a fiery unbeaten 79 from 42 deliveries by Shafali Verma. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur contributed 21 as India sailed to an eight-wicket victory in only 13.2 overs. Shafali achieved her second successive half-century and maintained her impressive form in 2025, accumulating 333 runs in eight T20Is with an average of 55.50 and a strike rate over 173
