Hubert Hurkacz established the momentum by defeating Taylor Fritz in two incredibly close tie-break sets, providing Poland with an initial advantage. The Americans responded impressively with Gauff, who delivered another strong performance to defeat world No.2 Swiatek 6-4, 6-2, extending her winning streak against the Pole to four consecutive matches just days ahead of the Australian Open.
Gauff came back for the crucial mixed doubles, but Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zielinski maintained their composure in consecutive tie-breaks to secure a thrilling win and advance Poland to Sunday’s final.
They will compete against Switzerland, who also moved forward 2-1 following an intense semi-final victory over Belgium in extreme heat.
Belinda Bencic was the driving force behind the Swiss victory, battling through a lengthy 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 match against Elise Mertens that left her emotionally exhausted.

“I feel as though 170 kilos have been lifted off my shoulders,” Bencic confessed. “I experienced intense pressure to avoid disappointing my team.”
Veteran Stan Wawrinka, competing in what he declared to be his last season, overcame fatigue to challenge Belgium’s Zizou Bergs to a three-set match before ultimately losing. The tie was then determined in mixed doubles, where Bencic and Jakub Paul performed well under pressure.
