At 41, in his 23rd NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar delivered a historic performance to lead his team to a commanding 124-104 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
I surrender — there are NO superlatives remaining for LeBron James.
A Triple Double at 41? LeBron James Challenges Father Time To Write NBA History… Once more
At 41, in his 23rd season in the NBA, he continues to fend off Father Time. On Thursday night, he provided another reminder, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 124-104 victory against the Dallas Mavericks.
In what way? He has just become the oldest player in history to achieve a triple-double. Simple as that.
Oh, and he didn’t simply arrive. He went wild on the court — concluding with 28 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds, along with the victory.
The former record was held by Karl Malone, who achieved his last triple-double at 40 years and 127 days old. That record remained unbroken for 22 years. It’s long gone now.
James has also ascended to fifth place on the NBA’s all-time regular-season triple-doubles list with 123, only behind Russell Westbrook (207), Nikola Jokic (184), Oscar Robertson (181), and Magic Johnson (138)
“I suppose I value moments like this in my career more, realizing my current position at this later phase of my journey,” James stated. “You certainly absorb it a bit more.”
He hadn’t recorded a triple-double since February 1, 2025 — the very night Lakers history changed with the major trade that acquired Luka Doncic for Los Angeles.
Even though he missed 18 games this season, James was still chosen for his 22nd All-Star Game at Intuit Dome. Nonetheless, league regulations state that he won’t be eligible for All-NBA recognition this season.
He stepped onto the court for the night with averages of 21.8 points, 6.9 assists, and 5.7 rebounds, consistent output for a Lakers squad deeply engaged in the Western Conference playoff race — despite limited opportunities playing entirely healthy next to Doncic and Austin Reaves.
At 41, the figures continue to shout excellence. And it certainly appears that he won’t be halting.
