India faces a significant fitness issue before their second group match in the current ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
India are worried about the fitness of another of their key players in the current ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Following Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, and Jasprit Bumrah, the powerful opening batsman Abhishek Sharma is also unwell and was reportedly hospitalized due to a deterioration in his condition.
As reported by timesofindia.com, Abhishek is dealing with an infection, although his absence has officially been attributed to fever. In India’s World Cup opening match against the USA last Sunday, the young player had a high fever and nevertheless opened the innings, but he was dismissed for a golden duck.
Abhishek, however, did not participate in USA’s innings and was also not spotted in Team India’s dugout.
The report also mentioned that Abhishek was given a drip for quick relief.
The 25-year-old did not participate in India’s training session in the national capital on Tuesday, as they prepare to compete against Namibia in their second group match of the World Cup
“Abhi (Abhishek) continues to experience some problems with his stomach.” “We are optimistic that he will be ready for the match in two days,” said India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate.
“We’re primarily waiting on Abhi’s fitness, which will once again create several different combinations,” he stated.
In positive news, India’s leading pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah is anticipated to return to action on Thursday against Namibia. Bumrah missed the USA match because he was not feeling well.
“Booms (Bumrah) will also bowl today (Tuesday).” He’s been without bowling for around ten days, but he’s feeling much better and is moving more effectively. “Let’s observe how training progresses today and tomorrow, and then assemble the team on Thursday,” Ten Doeschate stated.
In the meantime, Sundar has joined the India team in New Delhi after being cleared by the BCCI following his recovery from a rib injury.
