The scope is impressive, and some battle scenes succeed, but the feelings frequently seem exaggerated and contrived instead of genuine. The dialogues aim for impact, but not every line hits, and the screenplay lags at times. Admirable attempt, genuine portrayals, yet it never achieves the original’s effect. Mediocre timepiece, nostalgia carries much of the weight.
