Lewis Hamilton confronts challenging decisions head-on, but this particular one seemed to weigh heavily on him.

‘Harmful’: Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton Discusses Changes in Race Engineering Team

The seven-time world champion discussed his separation from veteran race engineer Riccardo Adami following his initial season with Ferrari, describing it as a “quite tough decision to make.”

Adami has transitioned to a position in Ferrari’s academy structure, concluding a collaboration that Hamilton referred to as “a challenging year for everyone.”

“Initially, the decision regarding Riccardo was quite challenging, and I’m truly thankful for all the hard work he contributed last year and his perseverance,” Hamilton stated during the pre-season trials in Bahrain. “It was a challenging year for everyone.”

The 41-year-old stated that there are no negative emotions

A Short-term Solution?

Currently, Carlo Santi — who has formerly collaborated with Kimi Raikkonen and worked from Ferrari’s remote garage — has assumed the position of race engineer.

However, Hamilton suggested that this isn’t a permanent fix.

“It’s really a challenging time, since my current solution isn’t for the long term — it’s just for a handful of races,” he clarified. “At this point in the season, things are about to change once more, and I’ll need to adapt to collaborating with a new partner.”

Such instability is not favorable as a title campaign approaches.

“That’s harmful for me as well,” Hamilton acknowledged. “You wish to be with those who have experienced several seasons, who have faced challenges together, but I cannot.”

Nonetheless, the Briton isn’t offering justifications. “It’s the circumstance I’m dealing with, and I’ll strive to do my best.” The team is working hard to ensure it is as smooth as possible.

Following two rounds of pre-season testing in Bahrain, the 2026 season kicks off at the Australian Grand Prix from March 6–8.
