Lionel Messi’s GOAT India Tour 2025 arrives in Mumbai with Inter Miami teammates Luis Suárez and Rodrigo de Paul, featuring World Cup-level security following the chaos in Kolkata.
Lionel Messi’s tour of India reached Mumbai on Sunday — and this time, there was no space for disorder.
The football legend reached the city around midday with “World Cup-level” security, signifying Day 2 of his four-city GOAT India Tour 2025. Following the events that occurred in Kolkata, officials in Mumbai weren’t willing to take any risks.
Messi went directly to the Taj Colaba for a short rest before heading to the Cricket Club of India (Brabourne Stadium), where he will participate in a Padel GOAT Club event, later joining a glamorous celebrity football match. In the evening, the Argentine legend is anticipated at the Wankhede Stadium by 5 pm, the highlight of the Mumbai segment.

Messi’s actions are being closely watched alongside Inter Miami teammates Luis Suárez and Rodrigo de Paul. Over 2,000 police officers have been stationed throughout Brabourne and Wankhede, with surveillance towers, barriers, loudspeakers, and rigorous access limitations established. Water bottles, metallic items, and coins are prohibited within venues.
“Following the events in Kolkata, we have set up security measures comparable to those for the World Cup,” a police official stated
Kolkata turmoil prompts reconsideration
Messi’s visit kicked off with immense enthusiasm in Kolkata — and soon spiraled downward. Thousands gathered at Salt Lake Stadium eager to catch a sight of the World Cup champion, but restricted access and poor visibility led to frustration. Sections of the venue were damaged, prompting organizers to shorten the visit and hurriedly escort Messi out.
The letdown created an unpleasant feeling, leading officials in Mumbai to significantly enhance security measures.
Hyderabad brings back the atmosphere
The tour, nonetheless, regained its pace in Hyderabad. Messi engaged with fans up close, participated in a casual football training, and even shared the field with Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy — a moment that rekindled the festive atmosphere the tour intended.
Now in Mumbai, with insights gained and security heightened, the city is prepared — cautiously, firmly, and loudly — to greet the greatest footballer of a generation
