In a post on his social media accounts, Mr. Arijit Singh announced that he has chosen to leave playback singing, a decision made at the height of his career as one of the most sought-after voices in Hindi films.
“I am calling it off, it was a wonderful journey,” Arijit Singh stated on Tuesday (January 27, 2026), revealing that he will not accept any new projects as a playback singer, a choice that shocked his fans significantly.
In a post on his social media accounts, Mr. Singh announced his choice to withdraw from playback singing, a decision made at the height of his career as one of the most sought-after and beloved voices in Hindi films.
“Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not going to be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey,” he wrote.
The 38-year-old, however, emphasized that he would keep producing music independently and fulfill current obligations.
“God has truly been generous to me.” I enjoy great music and in the future, I will learn more and create more independently as a budding artist. Thank you once more for all your assistance. I still need to complete some outstanding obligations, and I will take care of them. Therefore, you could receive certain releases this year. “To clarify, I will continue creating music,” he mentioned.
Is It Too Soon? Fans React to Arijit Singh Calling It Off
Although Mr. Arijit Singh did not explain the rationale for his choice, the announcement was received with skepticism, as numerous fans voiced their disappointment in the comments. “Too early, sir; it can’t be genuine,” commented a user.
Someone else remarked, “This can’t possibly be true.” Arreey, but whyyyyyy??????? Why are you treating us like this??? Please stay, man. “We require you for at least another 20 years,” stated a comment.
Mr. Singh’s ascent in the Indian music industry has been nothing less than extraordinary.
He began as a participant on the reality series Fame Gurukul in 2005 and launched his playback career in 2011 with Phir Mohabbat from the Emraan Hashmi film Murder 2.
He made his big league debut with the heartfelt song Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2 in 2013. The song’s success turned him into a well-known figure.
Following that, Mr. Singh swiftly emerged as the expression of a variety of emotions, whether it was love, sorrow, or joy. He continued to produce a series of hit songs including Channa Mereya, Agar Tum Saath Ho, Raabta, Kesariya, Gerua, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and Chaleya.
Throughout the years, he has provided his voice to almost all of Hindi cinema’s top stars — including superstars Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan as well as actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
Mr. Arijit Singh produced music in various Indian languages, such as Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Marathi, and worked alongside prominent composers and directors.
His contributions garnered him several Filmfare Awards, including several Best Male Playback Singer accolades.
In July 2025, Mr. Singh surpassed global pop sensations Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran to become the most followed artist on the music streaming service Spotify with 151 million fans.
