When Did Manchester City Sign Max Alleyne and From Which Club?

Manchester City

Manchester City

Max Alleyne debuted in the Premier League for Manchester City, leaving behind Mark Alleyne’s cricket legacy to carve out his own football journey under Pep Guardiola.

From County Glory to the Premier League: the Alleyne legacy finds a new platform.

Manchester City defender Max Alleyne played his first Premier League match on Wednesday against Brighton, taking the stage once held by his father — albeit on a contrasting pitch.

Manchester City’s Young Defender With a Sporting Pedigree

At only 20, the England Under-21 player was brought in by Pep Guardiola to address City’s escalating defensive issues, as injuries kept Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol out.

Recalled from a year-long loan at Watford, Max took his opportunity at the Etihad, marking a key moment in a career influenced by top-level sports — even if not the one that established his family name.

His dad, Mark Alleyne, is a prominent presence in English county cricket.

A past England all-rounder and now the head coach of Gloucestershire, he gained 10 ODI appearances and led the county to six limited-overs championships from 1999 to 2003, and later returned to help them secure the 2024 T20 Blast title. In various formats, he represented Gloucestershire over 750 occasions, establishing a legacy of endurance and leadership.

Max, on the other hand, selected his own route.

“I’ve never actually played cricket, and I don’t follow it,” he confessed earlier this year in a chat with BBC Sport. “He was never aggressive.” “I was passionate about football, so I continued to play.”

That liberty was rewarding. Acquired from Southampton’s academy in 2021 for £1.5 million, Max progressed quickly at City, aiding the elite development team in securing the Premier League 2 title last season and receiving the club’s Under-21 Player of the Year accolade.

The club’s confidence in City was emphasized with a long-term agreement that secures his position until 2030.
