Man United considers Carrick and Solskjaer for interim roles after Amorim’s departure; Fletcher manages the team against Burnley during ongoing instability.
The revolving door at Manchester United is turning once more.
What Role Could Michael Carrick Play in United’s New Setup?
Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are once again part of the discussions at Old Trafford as United rush to appoint an interim head coach after Ruben Amorim’s dismissal.
British media reports that former United players have engaged in informal discussions with sporting director Jason Wilcox, with additional conversations anticipated as the club evaluates its immediate choices. The timing is significant — United are getting ready for a Premier League match against Burnley while discontent rises behind the scenes.
At this moment, the reins have been given to Darren Fletcher. The ex-midfielder, who is presently overseeing the club’s Under-18 team, will manage the Burnley match on a temporary basis.
However, Fletcher might just be a temporary solution.
Carrick and Solskjaer are said to be under consideration for positions in a revamped coaching staff, following Amorim’s firing on Monday after an alleged dispute with Wilcox last week.
A comeback for Solskjaer would be particularly meaningful — and contentious. The Norwegian initially stepped in as interim manager in December 2018 following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal, securing the position permanently before being let go in November 2021. Carrick then briefly served as the interim manager.
United are presently in sixth place in the Premier League, having secured only eight victories in their 20 league matches this season — a circumstance that highlights the club’s persistent instability.A different chapter. Recognizable faces. Identical ambiguity.
