Even in a challenging phase, T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav expresses assurance, insisting he’s “not out of form, definitely out of runs.” India made a strong comeback following a prior defeat, with bowlers such as Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy spearheading their seven-wicket victory against South Africa. The squad concentrated on fundamentals to ensure the win.
Suryakumar Yadav might be lacking in runs, but India’s T20I captain is confident that form is not the problem. Following a subdued performance in India’s seven-wicket victory over South Africa in the third T20I on Sunday, Suryakumar recognized the challenging phase but asserted it was just a matter of time before the runs would come back.
Suryakumar Yadav on His Form: “Definitely Out of Runs”
Suryakumar made 12 runs from 11 balls before being dismissed by Lungi Ngidi, continuing a challenging period marked by inconsistency. Aside from a fluent 75 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad on October 24 and an unbeaten 47 versus Pakistan in the Asia Cup in September, runs have been difficult to achieve. The streak has now extended to 21 innings and has lowered his T20I average in 2025 to 14.20, with two games remaining in the series.
Still, the captain conveyed an optimistic tone during the post-match presentation. “I’ve been hitting splendidly in the nets.” When the opportunities arise, they will arise. “Not lacking in form, just short on runs,” Suryakumar stated, dismissing worries about his individual performance.
Beyond just the individual figures, Suryakumar emphasized India’s reaction following their loss in the second T20I. “I believe this sport imparts many lessons.”
“How you return to the series is what matters more,” he stated. “We aimed to return to fundamentals, replicate what we were doing in Cuttack, and the outcomes favored us.” He mentioned that the lessons learned from the defeat in New Chandigarh were tackled together. “The bowlers gathered, and we also had an effective team discussion.”
India’s bowlers paved the way for the victory, spearheaded by player of the match Arshdeep Singh, who reverted to his “tried and tested basic methods” following a lackluster previous match. “It was a unique day… so it feels great to accomplish this,” Arshdeep expressed, dedicating the Man-of-the-Match honor to his niece, who is 10 months old, watching from the audience.
South Africa captain Aiden Markram praised India’s pace bowlers for breaking down the top order swiftly, while also recognizing Abhishek Sharma’s rapid 18-ball 35 that made the chase unattainable. Varun Chakravarthy, who took two wickets in the middle overs, stated that sincere discussions following the previous game aided India in regrouping
