According to a report by The Athletic, the league is considering replacing rainbow armbands and apparel with a pride-themed match ball, alongside enhanced stadium and broadcast branding.
The shift reflects an attempt to refocus attention on inclusion itself, after repeated controversies involving players who have declined to wear rainbow symbols in recent seasons.

Premier League officials are said to be reviewing initiatives that place responsibility on individual players, particularly team captains. Under the proposed approach, players would no longer be asked to wear rainbow armbands, laces, or warm-up tops during Pride-related fixtures.
Instead, visibility would come through elements fully controlled by the league — including stadium displays, LED advertising boards, broadcast graphics, and potentially the official match ball. The reasoning is straightforward: while players can refuse to wear symbols, they cannot refuse to play with the ball.
Importantly, the league maintains that this change does not signal a reduced commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion, but rather a recalibration of how that message is delivered.

Over the past few seasons, Pride initiatives in English football have frequently been overshadowed by individual objections, often framed around personal or religious beliefs.
