Srinagar Blast:The tragic blast at the Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar happened on Friday night, November 14, 2025. This event has left people in the whole area shocked.J&K Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat said that the explosion happened by accident. It took place when officials were taking care of seized explosives from Faridabad. What Led to the Srinagar Blast?
Explosives Recovered from Faridabad
Earlier in the week, security agencies recovered a huge quantity of explosive substances, chemicals, and resin from Faridabad, Haryana. This was part of an ongoing investigation into an inter-State terror module.
These materials were transported to the Nowgam Police Station and were being kept securely in an open designated area, following the standard procedure.
Sampling Process by FSL Team
Because the volume of seized explosives was large, a detailed forensic inquiry was underway.
A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team had been conducting sampling for two days to prepare the materials for further examination at a forensic lab.
DGP Prabhat said the materials were highly unstable and sensitive, and the team was working with extreme caution. However, during the sampling and handling process, something went wrong.
How the Accidental Explosion Happened
At around 11:20 p.m. on Friday, the explosives detonated accidentally, causing a massive blast that resulted in multiple casualties and widespread destruction in the surrounding area.
DGP Nalin Prabhat firmly stated that the explosion was accidental and that “any other speculation into the course of this incident is unnecessary.”He also confirmed that a detailed inquiry is underway to determine the exact cause of the mishap.
Casualties in the Srinagar Blast
The Srinagar blast tragically killed nine people and injured 32 others.According to the official statement, the deceased include:
1 State Investigation Agency (SIA) official
2 revenue officials who were part of the magistrate’s team
3 forensic team personnel
2 crime photographers
1 tailor
Among the 32 injured, 27 are police personnel, while two revenue officials and three civilians are receiving medical treatment.
Damage Caused by the Srinagar Blast
The impact of the explosion was so powerful that nearby buildings were severely damaged.Authorities are still assessing the full extent of the damage, including structural impacts around the police station premises.
